The Agony: My voice is still not entirely back to normal following the bout with bronchitis and it is making me crazy. The notes are all there, but my breathing is terrible, and there are some seriously rough patches I need to smooth back out. The prescription is daily gentle vocal exercise and stretching.

The Accents: Both standard British and Cockney need to be up to snuff for next week. Thank you for the assignment, Bernard Shaw.

My cough had better be much improved by Tuesday: I really want to go see a play that night, and i can’t go if I’ll disturb everyone around me and distract the actors. The play is “Gruesome Playground Injuries”. I read the script in American Theatre Magazine and have wanted to see it ever since. Plus I’d really love to be in it sometime.

Better yet, as soon as I can manage to walk ten feet without breaking into a cold sweat, I need to go find a new day job. Which I should have been doing four days ago, but I got sick. Le sigh.

This is me outside an audition today. I bet they had to mop before they let the next girl in.

Now, I’m out of here. In a strange bit of synchronicity, I have an audition to go to today…for a children’s theatre company.

We used to write an epically ridiculous never ending story-cum-roleplaying game to kill the boredom of the classes we didn’t enjoy as much way back in high school, and I am not ashamed to admit that I kind of wish we were still doing it some times. Also, we met in choir, where we were both in the ensemble of the first musical I was ever in. Crazy.

I always forget how much I enjoy tap dancing until I’m doing it. I tried a class I haven’t taken before with Tosh at City Dance Corps, and it was a blast. There were a few moments where I felt sincerely out of my league, but for the most part it it was a good stretch both physically and mentally–because the thing about tap for me is you have to think so fast, but not too much. So every now and then i find myself flapping around like a spastic duckling when I’m supposed to be doing something completely otherwise…worse, if I think WAY too hard, my hands start flapping along with my feet. It’s entertainment at it’s finest, I assure you. Eventually I managed to pick everything up, and we had a really sweet combination by the end, plus a crazy turning shuffle-off-to-buffalo across the floor exercise that i liked. I’ll definitely be back to this class again!

She was already my hero, but tonight she’s everybody else’s too.

Just incidentally, I was booked in as number 69 which made me giggle because I am immature like that.
